Treatments Calathea crocata : It is advisable a precautionary fungicide treatment, to be applied at the end of winter, using Bordeaux mixture. As far as insects are concerned avoid to apply a treatment if such parasites are not present on the plants.

continental : Water the Calathea crocata very regularly, trying to maintain the soil always a little humid, but not soaked or with stagnating water. Remember to increase waterings during the most luxuriant vegetative period, from March until October, and to decrease watering when the cold period starts.

alpine : We remind to water the Calathea crocata very often, specially in summer; the soil shall be maintained humid constantly, but not soaked. During the cold season we can decrease waterings, but avoid the soil to dry out completely for too long periods.

mediterranean : Water the Calathea crocata very regularly, allowing the substrate to be constantly humid; increase waterings specially in summer, and decrease them in winter. Remember that these plants suffer from drought, specially in case of long duration drought.

continental : These plants prefer the shadow, therefore avoid to expose them to direct sunlight or to place them in excessively bright locations.
We remind that the Calathea crocata does not tolerate cold; therefore it is grown as a houseplant in winter.

alpine : These plants prefer very shady locations, they do not like to be exposed to direct sunlight.
It is advisable to grow these plants in the apartment during winter, you can place them outside as soon as spring comes.

mediterranean : Grow the Calathea crocata in completely shady locations.
Avoid to expose the Calathea crocata to cold; place it in the house or in the hothouse since autumn.

Fertilization Calathea crocata : Ensure our houseplants a regular fertilizing; from March to October add some universal fertilizer to normal waterings, every 15-20 days; for the rest of the year fertilize every 30-40 days.
