Treatments Masdevallia : Avoid to grow orchids in stagnating water; the foliage can occasionally be infested by the cochineal, which is eliminated by using mineral oil.

continental : It is advisable regular but not excessive waterings; increase waterings in spring and summer and decrease them when the cold period starts, suspend them in winter. Always allow the soil to dry out completely between two waterings. Avoid water stagnations.

alpine : Water the Masdevallia rather regularly from March to October, always allowing the soil to dry out well between two waterings. Avoid water excesses or stagnating water; during the cold season waterings can be decreased or suspended.

mediterranean : It is advisable to intervene only when the soil is dry, however avoiding to expose the plant to long duration drought periods. We can decrease waterings or even suspend them during cold months.

continental : The Masdevallia prefers to be grown in half-darkness.
We remind that the Masdevallia does not tolerate cold; therefore it is grown as a houseplant in winter.

alpine : It prefers semishady locations, where it can receive few hours a day of sunlight.
It is advisable to grow these plants in the apartment during winter, you can place them outside as soon as spring comes.

mediterranean : We suggest to place these plants in a semishady location for a balanced growth.
Avoid to expose the Masdevallia to cold; place it in the house or in the hothouse since autumn.

Fertilization Masdevallia : Orchids need a specific fertilizer, to be given only during the vegetative period; avoid fertilizings during bloom and during a possible rest period. Remember to avoid orchids to be in contact with the fertilizing solution too long.
